The Stuttgart Airport Fire Department currently has 126 full-time firefighters. To ensure that operations run smoothly at all times, 2 guard shifts work alternately on a 24-hour basis.
Minimum strength per 24-hour shift:
19 members of the fire department - including an on-duty fire department supervisor - are continuously on duty.

Diverse activities - an overview
Aircraft fire protection: Ensuring aircraft fire protection in accordance with applicable ICAO guidelines (ICAO = International Civil Aviation Organization for category 10)
Technical assistance in the event of aircraft accidents: Deployment in the event of fuel leaks, hazardous goods scenarios or for the recovery of aircraft
Building fire protection and technical assistance: Responsible for the entire airport area - as a recognized plant fire department in accordance with Section 19 of the Baden-Württemberg Fire Service Act
Operation of a fire and rescue control center (safety)
Rescue service: Emergency medical assistance, first aid and preparation for special emergency situations - such as a mass casualty incident (MANV)
First-aid station: company first-aid service in accordance with the UVV/GUV guidelines
Support for other specialist departments: Services for internal and external clients - e.g. with turntable ladders, crane trucks, training in fire protection or first aid
Aircraft Recovery Training Center: International training center for special teams for aircraft recovery
Aircraft recovery: Deployment also at other airports - if required to support and carry out recovery operations
Training center: Training for other fire departments and rescue services - including respiratory protection training and internships in the rescue service (training rescue station)
Winter service: support in clearing snow and combating ice on the airport site
